As an alternative to traditional home heating systems, radiant floor heating offers several advantages in comfort, cost and room aesthetics. A radiant system supplies heat directly to the floor of the area being heated. Heat rises and is transferred directly to people in the room through a process called radiant heat transfer. The most popular and energy-efficient type of radiant system is hydronic. These systems provide heat by pumping hot water through tubes embedded in a pattern in the concrete of the floor itself. This is referred to as a “wet” installation. In a “dry” installation, the water tubing is placed between two layers of plywood or is attached under the floor or subfloor. A boiler supplies the heated water. Room temperature is controlled by regulating the amount of hot water flowing through the tubes. Read More
