So, you feel like the majority of your house's interior design has got some character. The kitchen is boastful, the bathroom sassy, the living area ideal for a jazzy party or cozy lounging - it's really just the dining room in need of a facelift. Have plans to start some remodeling? Why not consider revamping that dining room into something more lively?
Choose a color and accents While this isn't the only way to set your style, color is going to be one of the most powerful players in your dining room design, so it's a good place to start. Consider choosing something unusual or risky if you want a challenge. Done right, it will pay off with a unique look. Because it's the dining room, avoid neons or colors that might put off appetites. Instead go with other dynamic combinations. For instance, gray is one hue that often goes awry, but you can use it to your advantage here. Take a dark gray - though not as dark as charcoal - and use it as your base wall color. Complement this with cream accents as well as varying shades of other grays. Another great way to bring out the best in your new gray walls - or most any color and accent - is to incorporate hardwood flooring and furniture. Warm wood tones help keep a room cozy.
Hit up the flea market As you find fixtures and décor to add to your dining room, remember to base it around your established color themes. To continue the gray example, you may want to stick to black and white photos, or if you decide to lay a runner on the table, something creamy with smokey blue highlights. Gingham would be an excellent option.
Why not check out a local flea market for a lot of your items? Refurbishing antiques is an easy DIY, especially when you've picked them up for cheap.
Rethink your heating options Instead of central heat, why not offer dinner guests - and your family - warmth with better air quality? Don't rely on dusty ducts to force hot air around you home and instead invest in radiant floor heating. Radiant heating systems will fit under your floorboards and keep your home warm using all natural convection currents. Simply put, heat rises! It's a green and energy efficient form of heating that's especially great during the cooler autumn and winter months. It may not be the big aesthetic change in your dining room, but it's a giant leap forward energy-wise!
