It's no wonder that kitchen renovations are among the most popular home improvement projects. These rooms, often referred to as "the heart of the home," are used for preparing and cooking food, eating, entertaining, homework, family meetings and more.
The popularity of home improvement television shows, magazines and websites makes finding inspiration for a new kitchen easier than ever. However, deciding what changes to make can be difficult - there are just so many options!
HGTV is one of the most popular sources for any homeowner obsessed with making their home the best it can possibly be. Many will even argue that the cable network can turn someone who has little interest in home design or projects into obsessed after watching a few programs.
Some of the network's stars recently offered advice on those embarking on a kitchen remodeling project via Huliq.com.
Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri are real-life cousins who are known for their expertise in turning the most desperate-looking kitchen spaces into gorgeous, functional spaces on the show "Kitchen Cousins."
When it comes to designing a kitchen, the cousins say to think about the details that will make the room look customized, such as a counter-depth refrigerator and recessed high-hat lights.
They are also big proponents of energy efficiency, saying "anything with Energy Star helps pay the bills," according to Huliq.com.
Individuals who are looking for an efficient way to heat their dream kitchen should consider incorporating electric radiant heating into their design.
Designer Meg Caswell, of "Meg's Great Rooms," is a big fan of Carrera marble countertops and custom cabinetry in the kitchen.
She also urges homeowners to explore with colors such as grey and red. However, bold palettes can be subdued with other elements, such as a butcher-block island.
"Sarah's House" star Sarah Richard is a proponent of working with what's already there. Instead of gutting the room and starting over, consider what items can be salvaged and used differently. For instance, if the cabinets are in good shape, consider painting or refinishing them instead of replacing them.
She also says homeowners should financial and functional limits when designing a new kitchen.
Casey Noble, of "Design on a Dime," says the kitchen should reflect a family's personality.
"Some rooms should feel like calm retreats. But a kitchen is filled with life and energy, so you can make bold choices," she told Huliq.com.
Regardless of budget, homeowners who want to create their own dream kitchen are encouraged to seek the help of professionals for the design and execution of their vision.
Checking out the various kitchens in HGTV's annual Dream Home can help provide ideas and inspiration.
