Step 1 - Dry Fitting / Cutting and Turning

Cutting and Turning Floor Heating Rolls

Verify dimensions on plan match the location’s actual dimensions. If dimensions do not match, call (800) 875-5285 before opening roll. Prepare the subfloor to be clean and free of debris. Perform and record 1st ohm test (see detailed installation guide). Use the custom design or cut & turn sheet to plot your path beginning closest to the thermostat location and utilizing a wire down/mesh up configuration as much as possible. Following the design, cut the fiberglass mesh with scissors to create “panels”. Position the panels around fixtures using cuts and turns to accommodate the system design layout and proper room coverage. NEVER cut the heating wires, cut the mesh only.

Step 2 - System Installation

Installing the Floor Heating System

Staple, hot glue, or tape the mat panels and cold leads to the sub floor. Install the floor sensor 6” into the mat directly centered between the heating wires using tape. NEVER staple the heating wires or floor sensor wire. Apply a 1/8” layer of acrylic or latex modified thinset mortar or self-leveling cement over top of the mesh. Perform and record 2nd ohm test.

Step 3 - Tile Installation

Installing the floor tile

Allow the first layer to cure before installing the tile with a second layer of thinset applied with a ¼” square notched trowel. TIP: Experienced installers may wish to combine steps 2 and 3 by installing the tile and covering the system with thinset in one step. A 3/8” square notched trowel is recommended for a one step installation. TIP: Clean thinset from between grout joints with a wet rag while installing tile and when thinset is wet in preparation for the grout installation. NEVER use a utility knife to remove cured thinset from grout joints. Perform and record 3rd ohm test.

Step 4 - Electrical Connections

The electrical hookup with floor warming

The system can then be wired to the home electrical system and the thermostat installed in a double-gang wall box with a single mud ring by a licensed, certified electrician. Allow proper thinset cure time as recommended by the manufacturer (typically 7-10 days) before powering up the WarmlyYours electric radiant heat system.
