Electric Outdoor Heating for Roof & Gutters Installation Overview

Installing Electric Roof and Gutter Deicing and Snow Melting Systems

When snow and ice falls, they collect everywhere, and the roofs of homes are no exception. The snow and ice will then freeze into the gutters, causing ice to dam on the roof, which can cause damage to the house. For deicing and to prevent ice from forming, you can have electric radiant heat installed for your gutters. This outdoor radiant heating cable system will allow melted snow and ice to drain as needed. Exterior electric heat can save you money by preventing costly damage from snow and ice accumulation, making the system a worthwhile investment.

Hi. I'm Scott from WarmlyYours and today, we're going to be talking about gutter deicing. This house has a real problem with gutters being frozen ice damming on the roof. What we're going to do is what heating cables in the gutters, that's going to allow the melting snow to drip into the gutters and flow through the downspouts without refreezing. All right. Once you are getting ready and you know that you can proceed to go and get the materials you need, all you need to do is just make a diagram of what your roof looks like in the lengths of the downspouts and the gutters, and you just send that to us and we will do a drawing for you. We'll figure out how much of each product you need.

All right. When you're routing the cable, you want this whole trough of the gutter to melt, so what we're going to do is we're going to send this wire down to the end of the gutter, and then bring it down, and then go down into the downspout. Okay, what we need to do is we need to hold this cable down in the middle of the gutter. To do that, we need to clean the gutter out, and I've already clean that out a little bit. What I'm going to do, is I'm going to take some alcohol, and I'm going to get this area nice and clean, because what I'm going to be doing, is I'm going to be sticking an adhesive strip here to hold the cable in place.

Now, that we have it stuck to the metal anchor, I'm going to stick it down into the clean gutter. Now, the wire has to go somewhere, so what happens is now that you run the wire down the gutters, down the downspouts, out here towards the bottom, we have one end down here, but we have to connect the other and the power, so that's what's going on up there. We have a junction box, it's waterproof. We run one end of the wire into the junction box, and that's where the power meets the wire, so you can get the warmth in your gutter.

Well, our project is now done, and this house is that at really big problem with the water damage. The front of the house actually had to be replaced in this area around the front door because water had dammed up, the ice had dammed so bad, the water actually going back into the house. They install this new front porch, and over the new front porch, we put heating cables to get rid of that problem ever happening again. All right.
