If you're lucky enough to have an enclosed porch or a sunroom in your home, you likely use this space as often as you can. Not only does it give you a great view, but a sunroom allows you to feel like you're outdoors alongside Mother Nature.
Whether you've recently added an enclosed porch to your home or it's been there for years, there's no reason why you can't tweak its design a bit to create more comfort. Here are some tips on how to make this area one of the most welcoming, luxurious rooms in your house.
1. Install radiant heat.
Even if your sunroom is enclosed, it's more likely to have energy leaks and allow drafts to flow into the space due to its large amount of windows. To avoid having to crank up the thermostat throughout the winter, consider installing radiant floor heating. This is a financially efficient way to heat your sunroom and as an added bonus, you'll have comfort underfoot as you walk around the area.
2. Come up with a theme.
To decorate your sunroom and bring it to its full potential, you might want to consider a theme for the space. HGTV recommends a beachy concept using tropical colors that can remind you of your last relaxing vacation. Others you might want to consider are rustic country, modern or traditional. Having a theme in mind can make it easier to choose everything from furnishings to wall paint. Don't forget to bring in decorative pieces that represent your personal taste as well!
3. Combine indoor and outdoor decor.
Another way to make your sunroom a retreat that stands out from the rest of your house is to combine indoor and outdoor decorations and furniture. This means bringing in houseplants and mixing in wicker furnishings to create that outdoor feeling. This tactic can bring you closer to nature without actually exposing you to the elements.
Think about incorporating vases and lights that could be used on a porch to blend the line between the inside of your home and Mother Nature.
Whether your sunroom is long overdue for a new design or you simply feel like sprucing up the space, taking some of these tips into account can make the decorating process easier. Make relaxation a priority while designing and you'll be happy with the end results!
