When the Billen family in Kildeer, Illinois decided to add a hot tub to their backyard, they saw an opportunity to do something special with the surrounding stamped concrete patio. Working with Tom Fitzgerald of Able Concrete Correction Inc. and WarmlyYours Lead Technical Support Manager Scott Rosenbaum, they installed a WarmlyYours Snow Melting Mat system beneath the decorative surface — turning a beautiful patio into a year-round outdoor living space.
The Project
The patio features a 12-inch wide wood grain stamp from Butterfield Systems, giving it the look of natural wood planking. Beneath the surface, WarmlyYours snow melting mats keep the area clear of snow and ice throughout the Illinois winter — so the hot tub and patio remain accessible and safe no matter what the weather brings.

The installation was completed in close coordination between the concrete contractor and WarmlyYours' technical team, ensuring the mats were properly positioned and the electrical connections were planned correctly before the concrete was poured.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to install a snow melting system?
Installation timeline varies by surface type and project size. For concrete, it typically takes 2–4 weeks including formwork, mat placement, and curing. Professional installation is recommended to ensure proper positioning and electrical connections.
Could this be installed on top of existing concrete?
Yes. After the snow melting cable is installed, ensure that a minimum of 1.5" (Max 3") of non-combustible medium (concrete, mortar, stone) is placed on top.
