This smart radiant heat install kept the basement untouched—while delivering year-round comfort in a stunning four-season sunroom.
Why Radiant Heat Was the Ideal Choice
A creative heating solution without costly renovations
When the homeowners added a sunroom 5 ½ feet off the ground, they wanted heating and cooling so it could be used all year. But running HVAC lines to the new space would have required major renovations to their finished basement.
Instead, Scott Skiermanski, president of Stoneridge Builders Inc. in Prairie Grove, Illinois, turned to a smarter solution: electric radiant floor heating.
“We install only WarmlyYours for our projects,” Scott says. “There’s simply more wattage, more heat per square foot, and the lines are closer together with the TempZone™ product than anything else out there.”
Easy Installation with SmartPlan™ Precision
Pre-measured layouts simplify the process
Scott worked closely with WarmlyYours Account Manager Matt Caruso to fast-track the install. He sent over blueprints with a simple request: keep a 2-inch gap from the walls. By the next day, he had a custom SmartPlan™ layout and the correctly specified TempZone™ product ready to go.
“Unrolling the mat and getting everything in place was less than five hours — if that — and then putting thin-set over it took the rest of the day,” Scott explains.
His installer completed the entire floor heating setup in just one day.
Year-Round Comfort, Even in Harsh Winters
Cozy temperatures, even during freezing weather
Scott reinforced the comfort with foam insulation in the walls, ceiling, and beneath the flooring. A split wall unit handled the cooling, while the radiant heat brought reliable warmth—even through Midwest winters.
“I visited in the middle of winter and the homeowners were very excited regarding the comfort of the room,” he says. “It is a true Four Seasons room that can be used at any time.”
Why Insulation Matters for Radiant Floor Heating
Improve energy efficiency and faster warm-up times
While this sunroom project didn’t include subfloor insulation, radiant floor heating systems can perform even better when paired with the right insulating materials. Insulation beneath the heating element—especially in raised or slab-based spaces—can help reduce downward heat loss, improve system responsiveness, and lower long-term energy usage.
Products like ThermalSheet™ are specifically designed to work under electric floor heating systems. They create a thermal break between the subfloor and the heating element, helping:
Shorten warm-up times
Increase energy efficiency
Reduce operating costs
Maximize comfort in colder months
In any radiant heating project, especially in sunrooms or over concrete slabs, we recommend evaluating your insulation needs to get the most out of your system.
