How to Quote Your Floor Heating Project
Learn how to measure a room and get a quote for your floor heating project using WarmlyYours's Instant Quote Tool.
Hello and thank you for joining us for today's webinar, "How to Quote Your Floor Heating Project." I'm your host, Scott Rosenbaum, Tech Support Manager here at WarmlyYours. Today, we're going to show you the different ways you can estimate the costs of your floor heating project by using our WarmlyYours Instant Quote Tool, which you can find on our website. If you have any questions during the webinar, please submit them by clicking on the Questions and Answers button located in the top left corner of your screen. We will address all of your questions at the end of the session.
Before we dive into the presentation, we wanted to address a question we received during the registration process from Mr. Huang. He asked whether WarmlyYours floor heating products are electromagnetic field (EMF) tested. According to information from our website, our WarmlyYours TempZone products measure at 1.8 milligauss, which is a unit of EMF measurement. This level is significantly lower than that of common household items, such as electric dryers, where the EMF can be much higher. The next slide will provide further clarification on EMF testing. While there is no specific EMF standard in the United States, our products have been tested by ETL, known as SEMCO in Europe, and fall well below the international standards.
As a retailer or trade professional, you are accustomed to working with customers to determine their project needs. For customers new to radiant heating, a common question is, "How much does it cost?" There are several ways to quote your floor heating project with WarmlyYours, but first, it’s essential to understand that you don’t need to heat the entire room. Focus on areas where people will be walking or resting their feet, and avoid placing heating elements under permanent fixtures, as this is not permitted by the National Electric Code and will not provide any warmth where it’s needed.
When planning your heating layout, ensure that you have accurate dimensions of the space you intend to heat. Mark off any permanent fixtures on your drawing, as these areas will not be heated. For example, while the shower area can be heated, you should only heat under the toe kick of the sink and vanity, as that is where your feet will be. There is no need to heat under a toilet, as it is impractical and unnecessary. Additionally, it is crucial to indicate the location of the thermostat on your drawing, as this will guide the installation process.
Let’s take a look at an example of a typical bathroom heating layout. The heating elements should be positioned under the toe kicks and areas where feet will rest. If there are corners where no one will walk, you can allocate that coverage to more frequently used areas, such as in front of the tub. The installation plan will show the heating elements placed strategically, ensuring warmth where it is most needed. For an average bathroom project, the cost to heat the space typically ranges from $400 to $800, which includes both materials and controls. In contrast, a kitchen with more square footage may cost between $800 and $1,500 for the heating system and controls.
A quick way to get an estimate for your project is to use our Instant Quote Tool. This tool allows you to see all available floor heating options along with their costs and features in a simple side-by-side format. Now, let’s go through a live demonstration of how the Instant Quote Tool works. You can access it through the services tab on our website or directly from the homepage. Start by selecting the floor heating option and then the room type; for this demonstration, we’ll choose "Bathroom."
After entering a project name, such as "Green's Bathroom," click "Get Quote." Next, input your zip code and indicate whether the floor heating will be the primary heat source. If you plan to use it as the sole source of heat, we recommend utilizing our heat loss calculator, also available on our homepage, to ensure that our product can adequately heat the area. You will then select the subfloor type and the floor surface type before entering the room's measurements.
Once you click "Get Quote," a loading screen will appear while the tool processes your request. It’s important to name your project in the Instant Quote Tool, as this will help you and us differentiate between multiple projects. This is especially useful for troubleshooting later on. After the quote results are generated, you will see a comparison of different products available for your project, including the TempZone flex roll and TempZone cable with the Prodeso membrane, along with their respective prices.
You can also view installation options, such as the fixing strips for the TempZone cable. The fastest and easiest installation method is the cut and turn roll, which provides 15 watts per square foot, offering maximum power. Additionally, you can access installation videos for each product to better understand the installation process. After selecting the TempZone flex roll, you will proceed to choose your accessories, including a programmable thermostat or a non-programmable option, depending on your needs.
The programmable thermostat allows you to set different temperatures based on your schedule, while the non-programmable version maintains a constant temperature. You can also select an electrical rough-in kit, which includes all necessary components to comply with the National Electric Code. This kit contains the box, faceplate, and hardware needed for installation, along with a circuit check to alert you if any mistakes occur during installation.
After reviewing your selections, you can live chat with an expert for any questions or request a custom installation plan tailored to your space. If you’re ready to proceed with your purchase, you can add everything to your cart. Additionally, you may opt for services like smart preset thermostat programming, where we set up the thermostat for you before shipping it.
If you prefer to draw the room instead of entering dimensions, you can use our online design tool. Before using this option, ensure you know which type of floor heating system you will use, such as flex rolls or cables. Go back to the Instant Quote Tool, select "Create Project," and confirm the project information before clicking "Draw Room." You can upload a floor plan or request a free in-home measurement for accurate dimensions.
When using the online design tool, select the shape of the room and resize it to include any angled walls. You will also need to indicate the location of fixtures, such as doors, toilets, cabinets, and showers. Once you have completed the drawing, you can generate a quote and add suggested products to your cart. You can also request a free custom installation plan, which will include all necessary electrical information, such as amps and watts.
By submitting your sketch or uploading a floor plan, you will receive a custom installation plan detailing the product list and the placement of the heating system on the floor. Our engineers will provide precise instructions, ensuring that you know where to run and cut the mesh without cutting the cable. This installation plan will also include pricing, amperage, and voltage requirements, making the installation process much easier, especially for those new to it.
This powerful and intuitive tool allows you to offer a free installation plan for your customers, which can help you close more sales. For more information about using our Instant Quote Tool or obtaining a quote, please contact your account manager. If you’re unsure who that is, you can find out by checking your online account or contacting us at 800-875-5285.
If you need on-site installation assistance, our tech support team is available 24/7 at the same number. Now, I’d like to open the floor for any questions regarding what we’ve covered. Please feel free to submit your questions using the Questions and Answers button in the top left corner of your screen. We receive many inquiries, and I’d like to address a couple of common questions that may help you formulate your own.
One common question is whether you can save your quote to your online account. Yes, once you sign in and create a quote, the project, room, and quote will be automatically saved. The account administrator can view all quotes, while sub-users will only see the quotes they create. We recommend businesses create separate logins for each employee, allowing for independent management of accounts.
Another question is how to revise a quote. To do this, the user must be signed into their online account, where they can revise or redesign their project. It seems we don’t have any additional questions at this time, but if you think of any later, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email or phone.
This concludes our webinar for today, and we hope you found the information useful. Please join us for our next webinar on Thursday, April 14th, at 2:00 p.m. Central Time, the day before tax day. This session is part of our monthly series held every second Thursday, featuring a live question and answer segment.
