help find a cure for alec kubicaThere are sad things happening all around us…that’s for sure. The economy is still distressed and folks continue to lose their jobs and homes. But, there are positive things, too. The economy is trending toward recovery, babies are being born everyday, children are graduating, and weddings are being planned. The reality is…the “ups and downs” are really just part of life and being an adult. But, sometimes they affect children, and that’s the part I really struggle with.

Alec Kubica, at just 17 years old, was stricken with stage 4 Neuroblastoma (NB) this past summer. This relatively rare form of cancer attacks the nervous system tissue. He is fighting the disease with chemotherapy treatments and a stem cell transplant which has been scheduled for the beginning of November. Alec is passionate about soccer and is looking forward to college and remains positive about what his future holds.

I have found in my lifetime that every tragic event brings with it an opportunity to reach out and make a difference to the person who is experiencing the hardship. It’s a way to balance the bad with the good, and to make some sense of what otherwise defies logic and explanation. Demonstrating kindness and compassion towards others, especially when it is a total stranger, is part of our nature as human beings.

A fundraiser is being held for Alec Kubica and the Neuroblastoma Research Fund on Sunday, October 17th at Pinstripes located at 100 West Higgins Rd in South Barrington. WarmlyYours is donating several products to the Silent Auction being held at the benefit. It’s fitting, really, that WarmlyYours would be involved. Julia Billen, WarmlyYours President, cares deeply about the community and being socially responsible. WarmlyYours electric radiant heating products are “feel good” products. They bring warmth and comfort to your home. It’s a winning combination for everyone.

If you would like to make a donation, attend the fundraiser or just learn more about Alec and how you can make a difference in Alec’s future, please visit the website at
