Laminate Floor Heating Customer Reviews
We take pride in providing both exceptional service and great products. But don't just take our word for it, check out what some of our customers have had to say.
How Much Does Laminate Floor Heating Cost?
Environ Floor Heating Mats for laminate typically cost between C$12–C$18 per square foot. For a 200 square foot living room with about 150 heated square feet, expect to spend between C$1,800 and C$2,700 on heating materials. Add a programmable thermostat (C$130–C$350) and you have a complete system.
Operating costs are remarkably low. One customer reported heating a basement office 12 hours a day for an entire December in Canada for only $18 total. Most homeowners spend less than $1 per day to heat a single zone.
Because Environ Mats require no adhesives, thinset, or self-leveling cement, material costs are lower than tile or stone installations. The floating installation method also means most homeowners can handle the project themselves—saving on professional labor.

How to Install Floor Heating Under Laminate
Installing Environ Mats under laminate is one of the simplest radiant heating installations. Because laminate uses the floating (click-lock) method, you never need adhesives or self-leveling cement—just roll out the mats and lay your flooring on top.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Step 1: Clean and level the subfloor (concrete, plywood, or existing flooring).
- Step 2: Roll out Environ Mats according to your SmartPlan layout.
- Step 3: Secure mats with tape and connect leads to the thermostat location.
- Step 4: Test the heating system with an ohmmeter (test before, during, and after).
- Step 5: Install a thin, radiant-compatible underlayment (≤3mm, R-value ≤0.4).
- Step 6: Install click-lock laminate flooring over the underlayment (floating method).
- Step 7: Wire the thermostat, set maximum floor temperature to 80–85°F, and enjoy!
Critical Compatibility Tips
- Temperature limit: Laminate must stay below 85°F to prevent warping. Environ's 12 watt output and our thermostats with floor sensors enforce this automatically.
- R-value: Total flooring R-value must be ≤1.0 for efficient heat transfer. Standard laminate (R-0.4 to R-0.6) plus thin underlayment (R-0.2 to R-0.4) stays within this range.
- Pre-attached underlayment: Choose laminate without pre-attached foam or cork backing, as it blocks heat transfer. Use a separate thin, radiant-compatible underlayment instead.
