Last Saturday, WarmlyYours was out enjoying the beautiful, albeit very windy, spring day, to help raise awareness for and support victims of domestic violence. A team of 12 WarmlyYours employees and enthusiastic family members—WarmlyYours Radiant Runners—ran and walked the EmpoweRun 5K held at the scenic Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Libertyville, Ill.
Proceeds from the event benefited A Safe Place, an organization that advocates and provides services for victims of domestic violence in Lake County, Illinois. The annual event, now in its second year, was a tremendous success, raising more than $40,000 for A Safe Place. Through registration fees, individual employee and company-matching donations, WarmlyYours contributed $490.
At WarmlyYours, we firmly believe in supporting local organizations whenever we can. “I think that one of the most important things an organization can do is give back. At WarmlyYours Radiant, we have been so very fortunate, and we want to share that good fortune,” said Julia Billen, owner and president of WarmlyYours Radiant Heating.
These outings also provide a network to build relationships. “It was great to see the company come together not only to support each other, but to support a good cause. Events such as this not only bring us together as a company, but as a community as well,” said Nia-Shea Grosche, marketing assistant, who coordinated the company’s participation in the EmpoweRun 5K.
Despite the chilly winds, it was a beautiful, sunny day to get out and have fun with co-workers, friends and family, cheering each other on. A few of the WarmlyYours Radiant Runners distinguished themselves by placing in their age divisions: Linnay Grosche, 2nd place, female 20-29; Christophe Selvais, 3rd place, male 20-29; Cassie Peterson, 3rd place, female 40-49.
All in all, it was a great day to get out, have fun, and support the efforts of A Safe Place to help victims of domestic violence. The WarmlyYours Radiant Runners are looking forward to doing it again next year. “This was the company's first charity race, and it turned out to be a huge success,” said Grosche. “We plan to attend again next year and get more involved in raising money for the cause and adding more participants.”
WarmlyYours was proud to be part of this year’s event. However, the need is so great, there is so much more we want to do to help the victims of domestic violence.
“Causes that help women are especially close to our heart, as women nurture our children and are typically the connective element of the family,” shared Billen. “This cause protects women and, therefore, protects us all.”
