Towel Warmer Not Heating

Share:

Towel warmer not heating.

Plug in Version

1.  Move towel warmer power switch back and forth and verify the switch is fully engaged into the "ON" position.

2.  Verify 95-100 ohms present at the 2 flat prongs of towel warmer plug.

3.  If no ohms are present, try moving switch back and forth while measuring the ohms.  Do the ohms fluctuate as switch is thrown?

4.  If no ohms are present, Power Switch or the entire towel warmer is defective.

5.  If customer or relative is handy and willing to give it a try, offer a replacement switch.  These are the most common failures.  This is especially helpful if the unit is out of warranty (see TW warranties online).  They are easy to replace with a small flat screwdriver.

6.  Replace unit if customer is unwilling to swap Power Switch.

Hard-wired Version

1.  Move towel warmer power switch back and forth and verify the switch is fully engaged into the "ON" position.

2.  Verify at least 110 VAC present into the timer and out of timer when placed in "Manual ON" mode.

3.  If no voltage present on LOAD wires when in the "Manual ON" mode, press the RESET button under the door of the timer.

4.  If no voltage is coming out of timer in manual mode, verify proper wiring at timer.

5.  If wiring is correct, replace timer.

6  Verify 90-100 ohms present at the 2 wires attached to the load and neutral wires from the timer.

7.  If no ohms are present, try moving switch back and forth while measuring the ohms.  Do the ohms fluctuate as switch is thrown?

8.  If no ohms are present in the timer junction box, open the cover plate and expose the wiring in the towel warmer junction box.  Disconnect the towel warmer wires from the supply wires.  Test for ohms across the 2 non-ground wires exiting the towel warmer.

9.  If no ohms are present, try moving switch back and forth while measuring the ohms.  Do the ohms fluctuate as switch is thrown?

10.  If no ohms are present, the Power Switch or the entire towel warmer is defective.

11.  What is warranty status of the unit?

12.  If customer or their relative is handy and willing to give it a try, offer a replacement switch.  These are the most common failures.  This is especially helpful if the unit is out of warranty (see TW warranties online).  They are easy to replace with a small flat screwdriver.  Send photos of removal process.  The switch has no part number at this time and no price.  Make a note in the system, and send the switch via US mail at no charge.

13.  Replace unit if customer is unwilling to swap Power Switch.  Verify warranty status.

(when replacing a switch putting the rubber covering over the new switch first prior to pushing the switch into the towel warmer may be easier to do. Installing the switch and only then putting the rubber cover over may be hard to accomplish.)
