How to Install ThermalSheet Under A Floating Floor

Install ThermalSheet underlayment below an Environ heating system and compatible floating wood or laminate flooring.

For a floating wood or laminate floor with Environ heating, the ThermalSheet instructions allow the underlayment to float rather than be fully bonded to the subfloor.

  1. Prepare the subfloor and acclimatize ThermalSheet as specified in its installation instructions.
  2. Lay the sheets with staggered seams. Butt the edges together without overlapping them.
  3. Tape the panels together to prevent overlap. The current instructions specify taping; it is not an optional step for this floating installation.
  4. Install Environ and the flooring according to their respective instructions. Use flooring approved by its manufacturer for the heating system.

This guidance applies to the floating Environ assembly. Bonded tile installations use a different method.
