Snow-melting system not melting snow: Initial checks

Check the controller model, displayed status, and operating settings before diagnosing a snow-melting system.

Identify the exact controller and record its displayed status, sensor readings, and alarms. Have a qualified installer check electrical output and heating-cable condition when the control calls for heat but the surface does not warm.

There is no universal 17°F shutdown setting for all WarmlyYours snow-melting controls:

  • SCV-DUAL / LCD-8: an optional low-temperature lockout stops operation below 17°F. It is disabled at the factory.
  • SCE-120 / ETO2: OFF TEMP is configurable for each zone; OFF means no lower cutoff. The manual also describes temperature, moisture, and afterrun settings that affect operation.

If the sensor is dry while snow remains elsewhere, check its placement and the site’s afterrun requirements. The ETO2 manual notes that drifting snow, an exposed sensor, or an insulated cavity around a sensor can affect detection.

Very cold conditions can exceed the system’s installed heating capacity. Changing a setting cannot establish that the system has enough output for every condition. Do not bypass safety limits or change the site’s design requirements to force operation; ask the installer or WarmlyYours Technical Support to review the recorded conditions.
