Measure conductor resistance and check for a path to ground before energizing an Environ floor-heating system.
Identify the exact Environ product and its lead configuration before testing. Disconnect it from electrical power and have a qualified person perform the measurements with a digital ohmmeter.
- Measure between the two heating conductors. Use a meter range that includes the resistance shown on the product label; a product above 200 ohms requires a higher range.
- Measure from each heating conductor to the ground conductor or sheath. Each conductor-to-ground reading should show no continuity: infinity or OL, not zero ohms.
- Record the product, temperature, expected label value, meter range, and all readings before, during, and after installation.
Compare the conductor-to-conductor reading with the instructions for the exact model and generation. Do not apply a blanket “10–15%” tolerance to every Environ product: the linked manuals contain different tolerances, and the Flex manual also has inconsistent tolerance wording between its general and carpet sections. Ask WarmlyYours Technical Support to resolve an uncertain or conflicting acceptance limit before accepting the test.
For the Easy Mat manual’s round-lead configuration, the two black wires are the heating conductors and the yellow/green wire is ground. Other lead configurations are shown in the applicable manual. Do not identify a conductor by color alone when the installed product differs from that diagram.
