The Secret to Perfect Roof Deicing Measurements 📏❄️

Expert sizing tips for roof and gutter deicing cables

Are you struggling to calculate the exact amount of heating cable needed to prevent ice dams on your roof?

In this video, we break down the critical formula for measuring roof deicing cable, helping you avoid costly bidding errors and freeze callbacks. You will discover why calculating for gutter length alone leaves sections vulnerable to ice build-up, and how properly factoring in roof overhangs and downspouts ensures total winter protection.

Watch the full tutorial to learn essential roof and gutter deicing techniques:

  • 📏 How to accurately measure zigzag patterns along the roof edge based on overhang depth
  • ⚡ Key differences between constant wattage systems and self-regulating heating cables
  • 💡 Critical rules for sizing up fixed-length cables to eliminate unprotected roof areas
  • 🏠 How to receive a free custom installation plan tailored to your specific roof layout

By applying these proven measurement practices, you will deliver reliable snow melting performance, protect structural integrity, and create winning project bids with total confidence.

This is the one thing you have to get right, so let's make it easy. The cable runs in a zigzag along the roof edge into the gutter, and then it runs down the downspout. You need to add up all three of those pieces. Here's the thing that crews get wrong: the zigzag eats length fast.

Your cable footage is going to be several times your gutter run, so never bid off gutter length alone. Measure the gutter run, the downspout drop, and note the overhang depth, because the deeper the overhang, the taller your triangles, and the more cable you burn. With constant wattage—again, this is for asphalt shingle only—you're matching those numbers to the closest fixed length. And when in doubt, size up. Extra cable you can work with.

Coming up short leaves an unprotected section, and that's exactly where the ice will form and where your callback comes from. With self-regulating, you don't have that problem. You cut precisely to your measurement and terminate on site. That's a real advantage on a roof that doesn't measure out cleanly.

And for anything complex, send it to us. Our team will put together a free custom installation plan for the exact roof, cable footage, layout, clip counts, controls, and electrical specs. It is a great tool to attach to your bid. Thanks for watching, everybody.

To jest jedna rzecz, którą musisz zrobić dobrze, więc ułatwmy to. Kabel biegnie zygzakiem wzdłuż krawędzi dachu do rynny, a następnie schodzi w dół rury spustowej. Musisz zsumować wszystkie trzy te odcinki. Oto błąd, który popełniają ekipy: zygzak szybko pochłania długość.

Długość kabla będzie wielokrotnie przekraczać długość rynny, więc nigdy nie wyceniaj oferty wyłącznie na podstawie długości rynny. Zmierz odcinek rynny, spadek rury spustowej i zanotuj głębokość okapu, ponieważ im głębszy okap, tym wyższe trójkąty i tym więcej kabla zużywasz. W przypadku stałej mocy — ponownie, dotyczy to wyłącznie gontu asfaltowego — dopasowujesz te wartości do najbliższej stałej długości.

Przycinasz go dokładnie do swojego wymiaru i wykonujesz zakończenie na miejscu.

To świetne narzędzie do dołączenia do oferty. Dziękujemy za oglądanie.
