Automated Snow Melting for a Heated Paver Walkway in Cary, IL

This heated walkway and stairs project in Cary, IL, provides a professional, automated solution for winter safety. By installing snowmelt heating cables under the pavers, we've created a maintenance-free entryway that stays clear and ice-free, so you'll never have to shovel again. The following products were used for this project:

• Heating Cables: Three different lengths of 240V snow melt cable were used to perfectly fit the unique shape of the entryway, ensuring every inch of the path is heated.
  • One 377 ft. cable (18.75A)
  • One 342 ft. cable (16.67A)
  • One 128 ft. cable (6.25A)

• Controls & Sensors: An advanced SCA-DUAL snow and ice melt control and a Snow Melt Aerial-Mounted Sensor automate the system. The sensor detects both moisture and temperature, activating the system only when needed for maximum energy efficiency. The system's operation is managed by a Medium Relay Panel and an Outdoor Snow Melting Junction Box to ensure safe and reliable performance.

• Accessories: A Snow Melt Plaque was included as an NEC requirement to certify the professional installation.

The total cost for the materials and installation was $2,009.41, offering a cost-effective and long-term solution to winter walkway maintenance.
