Test the Circuit Check device and verify the heating element with a digital ohmmeter; snow melting systems are tested with meters instead.
The Circuit Check is an installation alarm, not an ohmmeter. A quiet alarm does not replace the required resistance tests before, during, and after installation.
- Before connecting a heating roll, install the batteries and turn the Circuit Check on. It should sound while disconnected. If it does not, check the batteries and contact WarmlyYours if it still fails the device test.
- For a TempZone twin-conductor roll, connect the black conductor to the black terminal, the other heating conductor to the red terminal, and the ground sheath to the green terminal. Keep each connection secure and follow the manual’s diagram.
- Perform the ground-fault alarm check described in the Circuit Check instructions. This is a battery-powered device check with the heating system disconnected from electrical power.
- If an alarm occurs during installation, stop and inspect the connections and heating element. Use a digital ohmmeter and the exact heating product’s testing instructions to check conductor resistance and each conductor to ground.
Do not dismiss an alarm as a false positive or energize a suspect system. If the device fails its test or the heating-element readings are outside the applicable specification, contact WarmlyYours Technical Support at (800) 875-5285.
Outdoor and snow melting systems
The Circuit Check is for indoor floor heating only. Do not use it on snow melting or other outdoor heating systems. Test snow melting cables and mats with meters instead, as the snow melting installation manual requires:
- Insulation resistance: use a megohmmeter (500 VDC recommended) between the inner conductors and the ground conductor. The reading should be infinity. If a reading does not exceed 10 megohms at any time, stop the installation and contact WarmlyYours.
- Total cable resistance: use a digital ohmmeter (multimeter) across the two inner conductors. The reading should be within −5% to +10% of the nominal resistance on the CSA label, the bill of materials or the manual’s Appendix A.
Take both readings when the cables arrive, during installation and after installation, and record them on the warranty card.
