Yes. WarmlyYours matte black towel warmers use a powder coat finish applied over a stainless steel body. Powder coating involves electrostatically applying a dry powder to the metal surface, which is then cured under heat to form a smooth, durable, matte finish. This process creates a finish that is resistant to chipping, scratching, and corrosion — making it well-suited for the humid bathroom environment.
Matte black is one of the most forgiving finishes when it comes to water spots and fingerprints. Unlike polished or chrome finishes that reflect light and make water marks highly visible, the non-reflective matte surface diffuses light and conceals everyday splashes and smudges. A quick wipe with a soft, damp cloth is all that's needed to keep your matte black towel warmer looking its best.
Cleaning a matte black powder-coated towel warmer is simple. Follow these guidelines:
- Use a soft, damp cloth — microfiber works best.
- For stubborn spots, a mild soap solution is safe to use.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals such as bleach or ammonia, which can damage the powder coat finish.
- Dry the surface after cleaning to prevent water buildup.
With minimal care, the matte black finish will maintain its appearance for years.
The main difference is how the towel warmer connects to power:
- Hardwired: Wired directly into your home's electrical system — no visible cord. Requires a licensed electrician to install. Offers the cleanest, most permanent look. Most WarmlyYours black models (Tahoe, Maple, Malta, Grande) are hardwired.
- Plug-in: Plugs into a standard 120V outlet with a cord. Easy DIY installation — no electrician needed. The Ibiza Freestanding is WarmlyYours' only plug-in black model and requires no wall mounting at all.
- Dual Connect: Can be installed either way — plug-in for flexibility or hardwired for a permanent finish. The Sierra, Summit, and Infinity offer dual connection in black.
If you're renovating and have access to the wall, hardwired is the preferred choice. If you're renting or want a no-commitment option, the plug-in Ibiza is ideal.
Our matte black towel warmers are specifically designed to resist fingerprints and water spots:
- Matte finish: Unlike glossy surfaces, the matte texture doesn't show fingerprints or smudges
- Powder-coated surface: The durable powder coat resists water spots and is easy to wipe clean
- Scratch-resistant: The finish withstands everyday use without showing wear
Care Tips for Black Towel Warmers:
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust
- For deeper cleaning, use a damp cloth with mild soap
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads
- Dry after cleaning to prevent water spots
Matte black towel warmers are a popular choice for modern bathrooms because they add bold style while being practical and easy to maintain.
WarmlyYours is the only towel warmer manufacturer to offer hand-crafted Austrian crystal accents. They are available in four distinct patterns:
- Platinum: Classic clear crystals with brilliant sparkle — versatile, pairs with any finish or bathroom style.
- Slate: Sophisticated gray tone — modern and understated, pairs beautifully with matte black or brushed stainless finishes.
- Midnight: Deep, dark crystals — dramatic and luxurious, creates striking contrast with polished gold or polished stainless.
- Spice: Warm amber tone — rich and inviting, complements brushed gold and warm-toned bathrooms.
Crystal accents are available on the Infinity (10 bars) and Riviera (9 bars) Dual Connect models. They can be ordered pre-installed or added separately to any compatible finish. Crystals remain visible even when towels are draped over the bars.
Austrian crystal accents are exclusively available on two WarmlyYours Dual Connect models:
- Infinity Dual Connect (10 bars, 150W) — available with crystals in Brushed Stainless, Matte Black, and Brushed Gold finishes. Crystal patterns: Platinum, Slate, Midnight, Spice.
- Riviera Dual Connect (9 curved bars, 150W) — available with crystals in Polished Stainless and Polished Gold finishes. Crystal patterns: Platinum, Slate, Midnight, Spice.
Both models can be ordered with crystals pre-installed, or you can purchase the crystal accents separately and add them to an existing compatible model. The crystals fit into stainless steel collars on the bar ends and are designed to remain visible even when towels are draped over the bars.
Each towel warmer comes with an instruction manual which fully explains how to install the device from start to finish. If you can hang a picture, you can probably install a heated towel rack. However, for hardwired models, you will need a licensed professional who is certified to do electrical wiring for the final hook-up.
Yes, most of our wall-mounted towel warmers have a fixed power location in the lower right corner. All of our heated towel racks are electric "dry" (liquid/oil-free) units and most can be installed "upside down". Doing so will result in the power location relocating from the lower right corner to the upper left corner.
Please see the installation video here: https://www.warmlyyours.com/en-US/videos/towel-warmer-install
The heated towel rack will heat up to between 100 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. It will not produce sufficient heat to injure you if you touch or brush up against it, though you should still exercise caution around the device. Please note that once a heated towel rail is warmed up, the surface temperature will remain constant and can't be adjusted incrementally.
The heated towel racks have a built-in offset from the wall (the size of the offset will depend on which model you purchased); the offset provides sufficient clearance to prevent any damage to the wall. You should also maintain a distance of four inches between the towel warmer and surrounding fixtures.
Additionally, nearly all of our electric towel warmer models* come with built-in TempSmart™ overheat protection which will shut the unit down automatically if the unit's surface exceeds the safety limit of between 149°F (65°C) and 167°F (75°C).
*Excludes the Elements model.
Our towel warmers are designed for everyday use and all of them include an integrated on/off switch. Please note that the Ibiza model includes additional built-in timer options for controlling the unit. WarmlyYours also offers a wide array of controls that can be used with your heated towel rack. Depending on the control you select, you can program the heated towel rack to your schedule or operate it remotely. Just bear in mind that the heated towel rack is designed to gradually warm towels over the course of a day and does work best when towels are left to hang for about 3 hours.
The heated towel rack is designed to stay on at a relatively constant temperature to keep your bathrobes and towels fresh, warm, and dry. However, should you need to turn the unit off for any reason, you can use the integrated on/off switch on the unit. If you’re using a control for your heated towel rack, you may need to shut off the unit there as well.
Most of our electric towel warmer models* come with built-in TempSmart™ overheat protection which will shut the unit down automatically if the unit's surface exceeds the safety limit of between 149°F (65°C) and 167°F (75°C).

A WarmlyYours electric towel warmer can't be installed in a tub or shower enclosure. A WarmlyYours electric heated towel rack should be installed at least 24” away from a wet location like a shower, tub, etc. Always install a WarmlyYours electric towel warmer in compliance with all local building and electrical codes.
Weights vary based on design but typically range from 9 to 29 pounds. Even a larger towel warmer will not be a problem when attaching to the wall. As indicated in the instruction manual, you just need to make sure that at least two of the four brackets are attached to a stud.
The cost to operate your model will depend on two different variables: 1.) the wattage of the model you’ve selected. 2.) the cost of electricity in your area.
A quick way to figure out the hourly operating cost is to take the cost of electricity in your area (typically measured in cents per kilowatt hour) and multiple it by the wattage of your towel warmer divided by 1000. For example, the cost to operate an Infinity Towel Warmer (a 150-watt model) in Lake Zurich, IL (where electricity costs 10.44 cents per kilowatt hour) would be less than 2 cents an hour and the formula to figure that out would look like this: $0.1044 x (150/1000) = $0.0156 per hour.
Yes. WarmlyYours towel warmers are to be installed in accordance with the instructions in the manual and CEC, NEC, and local code guidelines relating to electrical fixtures in bathrooms. A towel warmer with a hardwired connection must be on a GFCI-protected circuit and be wired by a professional who is certified to do electrical wiring. Towel warmer models with plug-in connections should be used with a GFCI outlet.
Yes. Any hardwired WarmlyYours electric towel warmer can be paired with the Hardwired WiFi Switch (GK16-30090-0003) to enable full remote control from anywhere.
Using the My Leviton app (free, iOS and Android), you can:
- Turn your towel warmer on or off from your phone over Wi-Fi or mobile data
- Create schedules and automate on/off times
- Monitor switch status in real time
The WiFi switch also integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for hands-free voice control — no hub required.
Note: Installation requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and a neutral wire at the switch location. The switch replaces a standard single-gang wall switch.
WarmlyYours towel warmers are all 120VAC units. Towel warmers are available in wattages from 35 watts all the way up to 250 watts. A single towel warmer would typically range from 1-2 amps based on the model. Wire size and breaker size need to be selected based on the total amperage of the towel warmer(s). For towel warmers installed in bathrooms, a GFCI breaker is required.
No, floor heating thermostats are not compatible with the towel warmers. We would also not recommend using both devices on the same control, as it does not take the same amount of time to reach the ideal temperature for each product, which could lead to one unit to overheat and the other to not function properly.
Warranty lengths vary depending on the model of the towel warmer, please refer to the warranty card for more information. If the heated towel rack is defective or damaged and it was not a result of misuse or misapplication, WarmlyYours will replace the towel heater. The warranty registration card can be accessed from the individual towel warmer's Warranty Page and must be completed and submitted online to qualify for warranty coverage. These elements can be found in our Support Section for Towel Warmers.
Yes, a regular (non-dimming) light switch can be used as an external switch to control a towel warmer, in addition to the built-in switch on the towel warmer itself.
However, do not use a dimmer switch — dimmer switches are not compatible with electric towel warmers and can damage the unit or create a safety hazard.
Note: A GFCI breaker powering the switch may be required by local Electrical Code.
WarmlyYours electric towel warmers require no more power than is generated from your standard 120V wall outlet. For hardwired towel warmers, all the wiring is done through the wall. A separate power source is not required; power can be pulled from the nearest available source. For plug-in towel warmers, all that is required for electric hookup is that the unit is plugged into a properly grounded outlet located within 6 feet (1.8m) of the unit.
A good starting point is to follow the recommendation often provided in the installation manual. The location of your electric towel warmer should take building code, safety, functionality, and aesthetics into consideration. If the towel warmer is mounted too low, towels may drag on the floor, causing tripping or mold issues. Mounting it higher reduces risk of burn, especially for children or those who may accidentally bump into it. If you are unsure what height is best for you, consult your WarmlyYours representative at +1 (800) 875-5285.
No — WarmlyYours electric towel warmers are not a fire hazard when used as directed. Here's why:
- TempSmart™ overheat protection: Every model (except the Elements) includes a built-in internal temperature limiter that automatically shuts the unit down if the surface exceeds 149°F (65°C) or 167°F (75°C) depending on the model — well below any threshold that could cause ignition.
- UL499 tested: All models are tested to UL499 standards, which specifically evaluate surface temperature limits and fire safety.
- cULus and cETLus listed: Independent certification confirms the units meet North American electrical safety requirements.
- IP44 rated: Protected against moisture ingress — safe for bathroom environments where water and electricity are in proximity.
As with any electrical appliance, towel warmers should never be covered with towels that block airflow entirely, and should be installed with the minimum clearances specified in the installation guide. Used correctly, they are one of the safest bathroom heating appliances available.
Yes. The Hardwired Programmable Timer (GK16-30090-0002) lets you schedule your towel warmer to switch on at a set time each morning so your towels are warm and ready when you step out of the shower. You can program up to 6 on/off events per day across a 7-day schedule — for example, on at 6:45 AM and off at 8:00 AM on weekdays only.
The Hardwired WiFi Switch (GK16-30090-0003) offers the same automation through the My Leviton app, with additional features like sunrise/sunset-based triggers and remote control from your phone.
Both controls replace a standard single-gang wall switch and are compatible with any hardwired WarmlyYours towel warmer.
Yes. WarmlyYours plug-in towel warmers connect to a standard 120V outlet and typically include a built-in overheat protection thermostat. You can control them simply by plugging them in and unplugging when not in use.
For added convenience, you can plug a plug-in towel warmer into a smart outlet or smart plug (sold separately at hardware stores) to control it via a smartphone app or voice assistant—no hardwired control required.
The WarmlyYours hardwired controls (GK16-30090-0006, GK16-30090-0002, GK16-30090-0003) are designed for hardwired towel warmers only and are installed in a wall electrical box. They are not used with plug-in models.
Yes — that's exactly what dual connection towel warmers are designed for. Here's how the conversion works:
- Start plug-in: The unit ships with a standard plug-in cord. Mount it to the wall and plug it in — no electrician needed.
- Decide on permanent placement: Once you've found the ideal location, have a licensed electrician convert the connection.
- Remove the cord: The electrician disconnects the plug-in cord and wires the unit directly into your home's electrical circuit.
- No cover plate needed: Dual connect models are designed without a junction box cover plate, so the finished installation looks clean and balanced.
The unit maintains its cETLus safety listing in both configurations. This flexibility is ideal for homeowners who want to install now and renovate later, or who aren't sure about permanent placement yet.
Yes! Unlike bucket-style warmers designed only for dry towels, heated towel racks with exposed bars are built to handle both wet and dry towels. In fact, drying damp towels is one of the primary benefits of owning a heated towel rack.
Drying wet towels: The gentle warmth (typically 100-140°F on the bars) evaporates moisture, keeping towels fresh and reducing musty odors and mildew. Most towels dry within a few hours depending on thickness and bathroom humidity.
Warming dry towels: Hang dry towels about 15-30 minutes before your shower or bath for a luxuriously warm towel when you step out—like a spa experience at home.
Tips for best results:
- Spread towels across multiple bars rather than bunching them up
- This maximizes surface contact with the heated bars and speeds drying
- Our heated towel racks are UL/cUL listed for safe use in humid bathroom environments
Yes — WarmlyYours towel warmers are designed to operate continuously and safely. TempSmart™ overheat protection automatically regulates surface temperature, preventing it from exceeding safe limits regardless of how long the unit runs. That said, most homeowners use a programmable timer or countdown timer to run the warmer only when needed — typically 30 minutes to 2 hours before showering — which also reduces energy consumption. A 150-watt towel warmer costs approximately $0.59/day per day to run continuously, making it one of the most energy-efficient bathroom comfort appliances available.
WarmlyYours offers three flexible connection options to suit your needs:
- Plug-in only: Simply plug into a standard outlet—no installation required. Ideal for renters and those wanting flexibility.
- Hardwired: Permanently connected to your bathroom electrical system for a seamless, built-in look. Requires professional installation.
- Dual connection: Works both plug-in AND hardwired, giving you complete flexibility.
Installation is straightforward. Most plug-in models can be installed in minutes (just mount and plug in). Hardwired models typically take 1–2 hours with a licensed electrician. WarmlyYours provides free installation support and detailed guides for both DIY and professional installation.Learn more about our connection options and controls.
Installing a wall mounted towel warmer is straightforward and typically takes 30-60 minutes:
- Choose your location: Select a wall near your shower or tub, at least 24 inches from the floor and away from direct water spray
- Mark mounting holes: Use the included template or measure between mounting brackets
- Install wall anchors: For drywall, use the included toggle bolts. For studs, screw directly into the wood
- Mount the brackets: Secure the mounting brackets to the wall
- Hang the towel warmer: Lift the unit onto the brackets and secure
- Connect power: Plug into a nearby GFCI outlet (plug-in models) or have an electrician complete the hardwired connection
For hardwired installations, we recommend hiring a licensed electrician. All WarmlyYours wall mounted towel warmers include detailed installation instructions, and our 24/7 technical support team is available if you have questions.
A quality electric towel warmer made from 304-grade stainless steel will typically last 25 years or more with normal use. WarmlyYours towel warmers are built to this standard and backed by a 2–5 year warranty depending on model.
The most common component to fail over time is the on/off switch — not the heating element or the stainless steel body. Switches are inexpensive and easy to replace, so a switch failure doesn't mean the unit needs to be discarded.
Lower-quality towel warmers made from chrome-plated steel or lesser alloys can begin to rust or corrode within a few years, especially in humid bathroom environments. Always look for 304-grade (18/8) stainless steel construction and a cULus or cETLus safety listing when purchasing.
Most WarmlyYours towel warmers reach their optimal operating temperature within 15 to 20 minutes. For the best results, we recommend hanging your towels on the unit at least 30 to 45 minutes before use. This allows enough time for the heat to penetrate the fabric layers and provide a cozy experience.
WarmlyYours hardwired towel warmers are compatible with the following 120V controls, sold separately:
- Hardwired 4-Setting Countdown Timer (GK16-30090-0006) — Four preset run durations: 30 min, 1 hr, 2 hr, and 4 hr. Simple press-and-hold operation. Best for bathrooms where you want the rack to run for a set period then shut off automatically.
- Hardwired Programmable Timer (GK16-30090-0002) — Up to 50 scheduled on/off events per week with a backlit LCD and astronomical clock. Best for recurring daily schedules (e.g. warm towels ready before your morning shower every day).
- Hardwired WiFi Switch (GK16-30090-0003) — Control your towel warmer from anywhere using the My Leviton app. Compatible with Alexa, Google, Apple HomeKit/Siri, SmartThings, and IFTTT. No hub required.
All three controls are hardwired 120V in-wall devices that replace a standard light switch in a single-gang electrical box. Plug-in towel warmers are controlled with the included plug and do not require a separate hardwired control.
A dual connection towel warmer is a model that can be installed either as a plug-in or converted to a hardwired connection — giving you maximum flexibility without sacrificing safety certification.
- Ships plug-in ready: Simply mount to the wall and plug into a standard 120V outlet. No electrician needed.
- Converts to hardwired: A licensed electrician can remove the cord and wire the unit directly into your home's electrical system for a seamless, cord-free look.
- Maintains cETLus listing: The unit retains its full safety certification in both configurations.
- No cover plate required: Unlike traditional hardwired models, dual connect units have a balanced appearance after hardwired installation — no visible junction box cover.
WarmlyYours dual connection models include the Infinity and Riviera. They can also be paired with optional Austrian crystal accents for added luxury.
WarmlyYours towel warmers meet rigorous North American and international safety standards, including:
- cULus and cETLus listed — certified for electrical safety in both the U.S. and Canada
- IP44 rated — protected against moisture ingress, suitable for bathroom installation
- UL499 tested — surface temperature limits verified under standard test conditions
- TempSmart™ overheat protection — proprietary internal limiter that caps surface temperature at 149°F (65°C) or 167°F (75°C) depending on the model
WarmlyYours founder Julia Billen has personally contributed to shaping these standards through active participation in TC61 USTAG (IEC appliance safety), STP 1673, STP 1042, and the Infrared Heating Panel Association — ensuring that WarmlyYours products not only meet the standards but help define them.
WarmlyYours offers three hardwired control accessories that replace your existing wall switch:
- Hardwired 4-Setting Countdown Timer (GK16-30090-0006) — Select one of four preset countdown durations. The towel warmer shuts off automatically when the countdown expires — ideal for on-demand use without a fixed schedule.
- Hardwired Programmable Timer (GK16-30090-0002) — Program up to 6 on/off events per day on a 7-day schedule. Perfect for automatically warming towels before your morning shower every day.
- Hardwired WiFi Switch (GK16-30090-0003) — Control your towel warmer remotely via the My Leviton app. Compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for hands-free voice control.
All three controls work with any hardwired WarmlyYours electric towel warmer and are covered by a 5-year warranty.
The ideal location for your towel warmer depends on your bathroom layout and how you plan to use it. Here are the best placement options:
1. Near the shower or tub (recommended)
Install your heated towel rack within arm's reach of your shower or bathtub, but outside the splash zone. This lets you grab a warm towel immediately when stepping out. Electrical codes require towel warmers to be at least 24 inches from the edge of a bathtub or shower.
2. On an interior wall
Mounting on an interior wall (not an exterior wall) can make installation easier and may provide better heat retention. Interior walls often have easier access for electrical wiring.
3. Away from drafts
Avoid placing your towel warmer near windows, doors, or HVAC vents where drafts could reduce its efficiency.
4. At proper height
Wall-mounted towel warmers are typically installed with the bottom bar about 24-36 inches from the floor, allowing easy access while keeping towels off the ground.
Freestanding option: If wall mounting isn't ideal, our freestanding towel warmers offer flexibility—place them anywhere with access to a standard outlet.
