What to Expect at TISE Next Week

Prodeso TempZone Cable Installation

Last year, The International Surface Event (TISE) stunned the industry with a 10 percent increase in attendance compared to 2015. This year, it intends to continue that growth. TISE will inhabit the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas for a 3-day trade show and education event Jan. 18-20. If you’ve never attended the show before, here’s what you need to know.

TISE is comprised of Surfaces, StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas and TileExpo. These three shows were previously held separately but joined in 2014 to help unite overlapping attendees and give them a single place to meet and collaborate. Surfaces specializes in floor coverings; StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas caters to the stone industry; and TileExpo focuses on (take a guess) tile! As a result of this collaboration, the show attracts fabricators, installers, architects, designers, kitchen and bath specialists, retailers, distributors, landscape architects, restoration professionals, general contractors, quarriers and more. These attendees are invited to visit nearly 700 exhibitors sharing new products and trends across more than 400,000 square feet of convention space.

Special Features

TISE features its IGNITE education program with sessions specifically designed for show attendees. Some of the sessions even qualify for certifications, as TISE is a registered provider with AIA/CES, IDCEC, IICRC and AIBD. For example, “Design and Color Trends 2017,” which takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., offers 1.5 LU/HSW credits via the AIA, 0.1 credits per the IDCEC, and 0.2 CEUs through the NKBA.

Plus, after completing eight hours’ worth of sessions at the conference, attendees will automatically earn a TISE Masters Certification. Masters Certifications are available in studies including Business/Retailing/Business Management, Installation, Stone Fabrication, Sustainability and Design/Trends. To view a full listing of available sessions and certifications, visit tisewest.com/Attendee/Conference/Sessions.

The show also features a new segment for trend seekers called The Speed Trending Tour. Designers will offer their thoughts on the trendiness of products on display, manufacturers will share technical product information, and attendees will have the chance to ask questions. All the while, attendees will be offered appetizers and beverages! It’s trendspotting at its finest.

Designer Day features an exhibit pass, a Wednesday pass to IGNITE, and the Designer Off-Site Home Tour. The Designing With Natural Stone Program allows qualified architects and designers to learn advanced techniques in the use of marble, granite and other stone materials. The program offers a combination of classroom lectures (with continuing education credits), a guided architectural tour of the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse, and field trips.
