Operating Cost Per Hour

Cost Per Hour Explanation
The total seasonal operating cost is an estimate based on three key averages: the system's fixed power usage, a realistic average electricity price, and the average number of hours the system will need to run during a typical Vaughan winter. An automatic sensor system significantly reduces costs by ensuring the system only operates when necessary, preventing wasted energy. The calculation below provides a strong baseline for what to expect in an average year. Average Electricity Price: While Ontario has multiple rate plans, we will use an all-in blended rate that includes the commodity price, delivery charges, and other fees for a more realistic estimate. $0.12 per kWh

Project Overview

To provide complete and reliable coverage, this installation utilized a combination of high-performance components tailored to the specific surfaces.

  • For the Driveway: Durable Snow Melt Mats (WHMA-240-0240) were rolled out to cover the large, open expanse of the driveway. These mats ensure rapid, even heat distribution across the surface, making them ideal for new asphalt installations.
  • For the Stairs: Flexible Snow Melt Cable (WHCA-240-0188) was used for the stairs. The cable can be custom-configured to fit the unique shape of steps and landings, leaving no cold spots where dangerous ice can form.

The entire ground heating system is governed by a premium automatic controller and an aerial-mounted snow sensor. This smart combination detects both temperature and moisture, activating the system only when it's cold enough and wet enough to form snow or ice, ensuring maximum energy efficiency.
