This project showcases a 500 sq. ft. kitchen in Roselle, IL, featuring an energy-efficient radiant floor heating system. The system uses a 240V, 21A TempZone™ heating cable, controlled by a nSpire Touch programmable thermostat, providing comfortable and cost-effective warmth for only $0.23 per hour.
The heart of this heating system is the TempZone™ Floor Heating Cable (TCT240-3.7W-675). Two units of this cable were used to cover the 422 sq. ft. area, providing a robust power output of 5,084 W. This cable is specifically designed for installation under hard-surface flooring like tile and stone, delivering consistent and efficient warmth.
A crucial element for this installation was the Prodeso® Membrane Roll (TC-MEM-BL-162). This uncoupling membrane provides a stable, waterproof layer between the wood subfloor and the tile, preventing cracks from transferring to the finished floor. Its unique studded surface also allows for a quick and precise installation of the heating cable at the desired 3.75-inch spacing, ensuring uniform heat distribution.
The entire system is controlled by the intuitive and stylish nSpire Touch Thermostat (UDG4-4999). This programmable, touchscreen thermostat offers homeowners complete control over their heating schedule and temperature settings. Its integrated Class A GFCI provides essential safety, protecting the circuit from ground faults.
Given the total power consumption of the two heating cables, the nJoin Power Module (USG-4000) was a necessary addition. This module allows the single thermostat to safely control the high amperage load by acting as a relay, ensuring the system operates efficiently and within electrical code requirements.
The project included a comprehensive set of accessories and tools to ensure a flawless installation. The Circuit Check (SS-01) was used to monitor the cable's resistance before, during, and after installation, while the Electrical Rough-in Kit provided all necessary conduits, boxes, and connectors for a professional finish.
