Project Information
The decision to install a radiant snow melting system was a choice for year-round convenience and property longevity. The homeowner wanted a permanent solution to the exhausting and time-consuming chore of shoveling snow from their large paver driveway, walkway, and porch, which also minimizes the need for corrosive rock salt.
In-Line Electrical Contractors LLC expertly installed the WarmlyYours Snow Melt PowerMats directly beneath the pavers, ensuring complete, reliable coverage across the critical paths of the property. The system was designed for efficiency, utilizing a 240V circuit with a high-performance output to handle the significant snowfalls common to the Long Island area. The installation involved careful placement of the mats on the compact base before the pavers were set, integrating the electric radiant heating seamlessly into the new hardscaping design.
The outcome is a stunning, maintenance-free exterior. Controlled by an Advanced Snow and Ice Melt Control unit with an aerial sensor, the system automatically activates when it detects precipitation below a set temperature, melting snow and ice on contact. This not only provided the desired comfort and convenience but also significantly improved safety by eliminating slippery surfaces, offering a high-value, energy-efficient heating upgrade to the property.
Featured Products
- Snow Melt PowerMat (WHMA-240-0330): The core of the system. These pre-sized, rolled heating mats are designed for quick installation beneath pavers, asphalt, or concrete. They deliver 50W/sq.ft. of heat output to quickly melt snow and ice for safe, clear surfaces.
- Advanced Snow and Ice Melt Control (SCA-DUAL): The "brain" of the system. This smart control unit is fully automated, using a sensor to detect both temperature and precipitation. It only activates the electric radiant snow melting system when conditions demand it, maximizing energy efficiency and minimizing operating costs.
- Large Relay Panel (RLY-12PL): Necessary for managing the high amperage draw (179A) of this large system. The relay panel safely connects the output of the snow-melt control to the multiple heating mats.
- Sensor Snow Melt Aerial-Mounted (AIR-SS): The external sensor that monitors the weather conditions, communicating with the control unit to ensure fully automated operation.
- Outdoor Snow Melting Junction Box - Large - Wall-Mounted (SM-JBOX-WM-L): A NEMA 4X rated, weatherproof enclosure used as an intermediary point to safely and securely connect the cold leads from multiple heating mats before they run to the relay panel.
- Snow Melt Plaque (SMP): A durable brass marker that is an NEC requirement (426-13). It is embedded in the surface to clearly identify the presence of the embedded electric radiant snow melting system for safety.
